We’ve had two birthday parties in two days—one for my daughter and one for our friend Heidi….a “grown-up.” Yesterday was my daughter, Miika’s 8th birthday party. The party project? A needle felted Owl Pillow. The kids REALLY loved creating these. It was so thrilling to see how proud they were of their own work. Whalah! [...]

    January 26th, 2011

Last Friday Rose and I did our monthly workshop at Children’s Hospital in Maywood. Our project was tag banners. The goal: to perk up hospital rooms with a simple message that would help kids think ahead. I was amazed at how fast each child came up with their words. Jayla’s word was “PEACE.” Whala! so thankful….

    November 27th, 2010

I think Thanksgiving might be my favorite holiday. And the more guests the merrier! The R.S.V.P.s just kept rolling in and then 5 strangers knocked on the door. Our final headcount was around 28! Miika rolled up the sets of silverware… Good job! Everyone started arriving promptly at 5pm. It was the most wonderful day! [...]

    the workshop is buzzing!

    November 14th, 2010

These past 2 weeks have been a blast! On November 4, we had 14 ladies at our evening workshop making fingerless gloves, hats, legwarmers and so much more. We were so busy I only took 2 photos! And I can’t show them because our female Muslim students took off their head coverings which they wouldn’t [...]

    Nathan & Ming

    November 9th, 2010

On any given Saturday, if we are home doing chores, we are also tuned in to PBS watching cooking shows. Miika is a little ambivalent but not Nathan. He is a cook. If I’m folding laundry, he’ll pull the socks out of the basket and start chopping (pretend) and stirring them with his eyes glued [...]
