A dress and a basket project for spring breakers who won’t make it to the beach this year. All the materials are sitting around your house right this very minute and the wallpaper samples are free at your local paint store.
It’s spring break and we’re not going out of town. It’s a struggle to keep the kids from plopping down in front of the TV for hours on end, so we headed over to the workshop this morning….no TV there! Just an endless array of everything. It took a little prodding, but Miika and I made this little pillowcase dress this morning. When we were finished she danced around like a princess, very proud of herself. During every project we make, it seems we always hit a point when Miika is bored silly. Mommy pushes, prods, cheers…and by the time we finish, she’s always very happy she didn’t give up. The purple pocket was the front of a toddler’s shirt and the blue one was just a scrap that Miika picked out of the bin.
…and Easter baskets…
These are made out of cereal boxes, wallpaper and T-shirt yarn. Open a cereal box up. Trim off all the flaps. Cut it in half lengthwise. Crisscross the two haves and glue them into an “x” shape. Then cut strips up to the square in the middle. The trick is to make an uneven amount of strips. So, cut 4 strips on 3 sides and 5 strips on the 4th.
Modge podge wallpaper samples onto the strips, cut again, then start weaving. The handle is wire, buttons and beads.
If anyone wants more detailed directions and pictures, just e-mail me and I’ll put together a tutorial.
So, here are two spring break projects that will keep kids away from the TV for a few hours.

Oh. How adorable!
