    July 18, 2009

When Nathan was born, we were propelled on a journey to simplify life. That was three-and-a-half years ago, three garage sales later and countless trips to the thrift shop to unload STUFF. After about 100 days on the market, we have an offer on the house that we hope will go through. No matter what happens, we have freed ourselves of SO MUCH JUNK! And it feels very good. As we count down to closing day, it’s amazing how much TINY STUFF there is to deal with…the drawers, the closets, the basement corners. Each item has to be sorted and dealt with. It’s like editing a novel down to a newsletter! Now I’m to the point of ruthlessly pitching things without much thought.

If this chapter closes, the next one represents opportunity and freedom. We may buy a cottage in the woods, a rental building, a business…we’re not sure yet and happy not to make any big decisions right away. In the meantime, we’re enjoying living with international students in a beautiful community with so much to offer for our kids. This transition represents hacking away at a big ball and chain…soon we will be free.
