Well, it was time to get out and have some fun… After these past several difficult weeks, I decided that I really needed some sunshine and inspiration. So, I called my neighbor Jen to see if she and her daughter were up for an adventure. Thirty minutes later the kids were buckled in, snacks were packed and we were on our way to see a new shop in Wicker Park called, “Handmade Renegade.” What a treat! And an extra added bonus…the neighborhood is dripping with chic shops and cafés.
Here’s a snippet from their website:
The store was created as an extension of the Renegade Craft Fair, an event founded in 2003 that takes place four times a year in Brooklyn, NY, Chicago, IL and San Francisco, CA. The shop serves as a permanent location for people to buy handmade items from all their favorite crafters year ’round!
I found a simple irresistible treasure—a journal made from a Dr. Seuss hardcover book, spiral bound using some of the original pages of the story mixed in with blank sheets. It’s perfect for a sketch pad and doubles as a story book if I happen to be in a waiting room w/ the kids or we can all just doodle in it. Jacob Detherage is the crafter and his site is: bookjournals.com. It’s a perfect recycled, reinvented, product!
So, now I’m motivated to pull some of my ideas together and get a booth at the show…we’ll see….
