    Home >> altered clothing

    April 3, 2008

OK, I’m hooked…after reading Altered Couture and venturing down the google lane of altered clothing, I’ve become aware that it’s a movement and an obsession. I’ve always liked to sew, but never really liked to make clothes because it took too much precision and instruction-following. I’m one of those people who never reads the instructions except as a last resort. If something is not intuitive, forget it! I don’t bake much because it requires a recipe. But I love to cook because there’s lots of room for experimentation.

All that to say, altering clothing that already has a lot of the finishing touches is VERY appealing. There are lots of scraps left over from the Re-Bags and therapy tunnels…mmm what to do, what to do… So, last night I had the idea to try to make a little something for Miika. Here it is:

    MATERIALS

scraps from the sleeves and chest of 2 T-shirts

    bottom of 1 T-shirt

    one “granny” scarf

    1 button

The pink T-shirt was originally size 2X, so I placed one of Miika’s size 6X on top to figure out how to cut it down. Then put the sleeves and lower yellow strip on with the scarf in the seam. The flower is made from scarf scraps and a button.

Whalah, here we have the Earth Day shirt!

Now, I’m on to the next re-creation…
