It’s official! I’ve developed my first recycled product! I’ve made about 20 of them so far and have given away a few samples to friends to put them to the test. The RE-bag! Yesterday I grocery shopped using these recycled bags made from T-shirts and a lady chased me down in the parking lot wanting to buy some from me. So, we’re in business. My goal is to sell them and start employing a few people with disabilities to come and make them with me. It’s easy, functional, and a great way to keep plastic bags out of landfills.

The shirts were purchased at a local thrift shop and have been disinfected with hot water and bleach. I HAVE A DREAM to come up with projects like this that people with disabilities can easily make and sell.

And here’s another product that I’m working on:
Last year when Nathan was learning to crawl, Wendy, his OT, brought a long tunnel of fabric for him to crawl through. He loved it and was very motivated to GO. So, I’ve made a few. But of course they are made made from recycled T-shirts and I decided to put a little “window” in them to avoid the claustrophobic factor. We tried it out over and over yesterday. Nathan STILL loves to crawl through the tunnel. It’s good for sensory integration, problem solving, and gross motor development. Plus, it’s very colorful, not just one long tube of all the same fabric. I noticed that Nathan likes to stop in the middle to peek through the transparent fabric window. I think I can produce this tube for $50 each… This would be a GREAT present for physical therapists!

I have a few other ideas up my sleeve and will post them as they materialize. The ultimate goal is to develop functional products that people with disabilities can help produce by recycling.

Well, now I have to get back to work on the bread and butter graphic design projects…
