I’ve decided that when developmental milestones are achieved by kids with delays it is EXTRA special. Yes, I was always excited by Miika’s achievements. But there’s a much longer wait for Nathan to catch on. So, when he finally gets the hang of something that I’ve shown him 1,000 times, it’s VERY, VERY exciting!
This weekend Nathan finally mastered the use of a spoon! He also has started to nod his head for “yes” and shake it for “no.” By babbling, he’s clearly verbalizing what he’s thinking about. It’s a thrill to watch! If you’d like to see how he’s doing, click here to watch Nathan on YouTube…our debut movie!
There’s a vast world of information out there on YouTube, some horrible, some wonderful. I found a clip from the DVD Discovery by Will Schermerhorn about helping kids with DS speak clearly, that’s worth watching.
Hi Liita, I’m Sara – Jericho’s mom. Go-ooooo Nathan! That little man is spooning up the raisin bran like Jerry Seinfeld! I always felt I was destined to properly design a feeding spoon – something with an additional 30 or 45 degree angle in it, not just the dip from the handle to the bowl, but an angle coming toward the mouth, you know?!?! But hey, he really has the hang of it! And ain’t it a beautiful thing.
Have you seen Will Schermerhorn’s DVDs? They’re great.
Sara
Yippeeeeee!
Wow! Wow! Wow! Way to go Nathan. I am so so proud of you. Thank you Liita for sharing. I am so excited for you both. I am tearing up. You’ve both worked so hard and like always- it is paying off. Can’t wait to see you both tomorrow.
Sincerely,
Wendy
