We briefly met Michael Jurogue Johnson at a NADS conference in ‘06. He was such an inspiration to me as an artist. Sometimes I dream that Nathan will be an artist too. My Dad has this penchant for circles and has done very tight geometric round canvases for years. Well, Nathan sees a circle a mile away and also sees the shape of a sunshine in almost everything from packaging to splats of paint. Will he be a circle painter too? Check out Michael’s paintings. He is completely prolific! Oh, and he has Down syndrome.
About 10 years ago I stumbled upon an article about Marlene McLoughlin in Victoria magazine and decided I must have her book of watercolors, The Passionate Observer. Later, as an art director of books for Crossway, I had a project that her style was perfect for so I tracked her down in Rome. She illustrated four exquisite little devotionals for me based on the four seasons, written by Elizabeth Hoekstra. I recently checked up on her and found her fabulous website, you must see it!
