    Home >> simple and clean…

    February 8, 2008

…is so hard to do! Since June of ’07 we’ve been sorting and pitching in preparation to enter the real estate fray. We’d hoped to have the house on the market by now, but we still have a to-do list. The good news is that it is much shorter than it was 6 months ago. Almost every day I sort and get rid of some pile. Last night it was the toy bins…AGAIN, last week it was Miika’s art messes. All this to get closer to good schools for the kids and to simplify life and expenses. Now when I’m driving around and see beautiful and charming old houses, my stomach churns. It makes me feel cold and broke.

For Miika’s birthday I bought an unfinished dollhouse. We started painting it 2 days ago and put color in the kitchen and “kid’s” room yesterday. She picked the colors and it hit me that we were replicating our real house… As much as we need to move, it’s a difficult emotional process. We do live in a dream house with fantastic neighbors. Yes, there’s always something to fix, but it will be hard to move away from such good friends. As for the house itself, it has a soul. It’s a storybook house with history. And I’m certain that it will remain frozen in Miika’s childhood memories as the most beautiful house in the world…larger than life. She’s grieving already, trying not to cry herself to sleep at night with thoughts of leaving her beloved home. Despite the tasks, we all really do love this house…
