A few moons ago when I was an art director at Crossway Books, one of my projects was to do the production and implement Jack Stockman’s vision for his Advent Book. My children were not even a twinkle in our eyes at the time, so I never could have imagined how much they would love this book. It has 25 doors that open and behind each door are segments of the Christmas story. We read behind a new door every day of Advent, but Miika also likes to start at the first door and re-read all the others leading up to the new one. Nathan just likes to open and shut the doors and identify the flowers and animals at this stage. Oh, and of course we have to read it while we sit on the “storybook” couch next to the Christmas tree.
On a side note, Jack told me that when he used to jog around Oak Park, he’d notice all the beautiful doors on the homes (Oak Park, IL is an architectural mecca). This gave him the inspiration for the book. By the way, this makes a fantastic family gift, if you need any ideas for Christmas.
