Home >> Christmas madness or magic?

    November 24, 2007

I just don’t get it…leaving the house at midnight to go stand out in the cold until the doors open at 2am, so they can shop…traffic jams on I88 in the middle of the night! Who are these people? Every year I threaten to just boycott the Christmas madness, and maybe this year I really will. I do wish that I had unlimited funds to spend on all my family and friends because I get quite a rush out of giving presents, but with the cost of insurance and limited time to work, things are downright tight. This will be a thrifty season for us.

My biggest goal for this Advent season is to spend time and not money on my kids. Time making crafts and cookies. Time learning about why we have Christmas. Time to create magic. After all, as grown-ups, when we reminisce about our childhood, is it the presents that we remember or the time with our family? My favorite memories were going Christmas caroling with a group of friends, magical candelight services complete with all the decorations and beautiful music, and sleeping on the living room floor with all my cousins at my grandparent’s house. I don’t remember any of the presents.

A very happy Thanksgiving Day with friends and family! Although, two vital ingredients were missing: My mom’s dear Miro who passed away on Memorial day this year and our buddies, Pam & Loren (kids, Josh & Danielle) who flew out east…but of course we hope you are having a great time with family!
