Home >> a favorite spot in Chicago

We make quite a few trips to UIC for Nathan’s heart and ears and Miika’s eyes. So on our way home we often stop at the Garfield Park Conservatory to make the trip less of a drudgery. The Conservatory is the best deal in Chicago…free parking, free admission, and easy access off of the Eisenhower. So, yesterday we stopped for a quick floral fix. They were between exhibits but we managed to sneak one last peek at Niki’s mosaic sculptures as they were being wheeled out on forklifts and a Christmas wonderland was beginning to emerge. Under a little bit of duress, Nathan posed for this photo on a mosaic chair with Miika.
On another note, Nathan’s sign language continues to explode. To date, these are his words: ball, star, moon, sun, banana, car, Yay, hi, bye, baby, big, cheese, all done, rabbit, dog, fish, lion, bear, butterfly, cracker, apple, hat, shoes, hurt, eat, flower, tree, cold, milk, juice, ice cream, no, book, Lisa (his PT), and about four other one-timers. Once in a while I hear him saying the first consonant of a word that he’s signing. He is very motivated by the applause and praise that we give him when he signs.
Well, we’re off to prepare for Thursday…so much to do!
