stolen moments
OK, mommy had her art therapy yesterday, stayed up way too late….but this should tide me over for a while….the advent calendar (made from recycled Christmas cards) is almost done. Miika can make the missing days. Thanks Theresa for such a great idea! I found a little empty tin amidst my debris to store the [...]
creative bug
Lately I feel a desperate need to create, but all my other duties are filling my clock. I’ve been thinking it would be fun to make an advent calendar so I did a google search to get some inspiration and found a cool idea here: Theresa McFayden
There’s an old cookie sheet on my drawing [...]
a few favorite blogs
Here are two of my favorite blogs. Keri is almost a work@home mom…it will be interesting to see how things change for her in a few months. Penny is still on the other side of the parenthood fence and able to focus completely on her work which is quite inspiring. Check ‘em out:

in the light of the moon…
I think all of Eric Carle’s books start out in the warm sun or the light of the moon, two things that Nathan loves to sign. Generally those books work magic on him when I’m trying to calm him down…especially in the middle of the night or at bedtime when he just can’t seem to [...]
timeless
I’ve been listening to Prairie Home Companion on Saturday nights since the early ’80s. My mom and I used to listen while she was cooking supper. Now I’m the cook tuning in. My kids love to dance around my feet to the folk music while I chop an stir. PHC is a rare gem that [...]
Christmas madness or magic?

a story by Joy
My dear longtime friend Missy sent this yesterday…written and illustrated by her daughter, Joy:
a perfect Thanksgiving Day
As if right on cue, our first snow of the season is very gently falling…The turkey is in the oven, the house is clean, the table is set, I’m still in my PJs, friends are coming this afternoon, I’m surrounded by my family…life is positively good and I’m full of gratitude.
so thankful
My dream for this blog is that someone who is on the brink of a decision regarding the life of their baby would find hope and choose life. Or, if you’ve just given birth to a baby with Down syndrome and you want to look into a crystal ball to see what’s down the road [...]
a favorite spot in Chicago
We make quite a few trips to UIC for Nathan’s heart and ears and Miika’s eyes. So on our way home we often stop at the Garfield Park Conservatory to make the trip less of a drudgery. The Conservatory is the best deal in Chicago…free parking, free admission, and easy access off of the Eisenhower. [...]
