Home >> mommy’s 1st night out in 5 years!
October 18, 2007
For the first time since before Miika was born, I had a night out with the girls! They all gasped when I told them I could barely remember the last time I was out without my family. Yes, Paul and I have had a few dinners sans kids, but even that’s been less than a 1/2 dozen times….
Our little neighborhood book club dined at Selmarie, then went to the Old Town School of Folk Music to see Céu, a 25-year-old Brazilian wonder…full house, standing room only…had a great time. It’s amazing what a little “girl” time does for the psyche.
Here’s our booklist to date:
The Time Traveler’s Wife
Water for Elephants
To Kill a Mockingbird
Girl with a Pearl Earing
The Memory Keeper’s Daughter
Expecting Adam
The Secret Life of Bees (which I LOVED!!! and Sue Monk Kidd’s other book which I did not like, forgot the title!)
Reading heals the weary soul. The only way I can get through a book though, is if I take it with me everywhere. If I’m waiting for a train in traffic, I read. If the kids fall asleep in the van after an errand, I park in front of the house and read for 15 minutes. If I’m early picking Miika up at school and Nathan is asleep in the back seat, I steal that moment too. Reading tranforms waiting for someone who is late into an oasis instead of an aggravation. So, that’s my tip for the day, snatch moments.
Aside from the book club list, the best book I’ve read recently was Gifts: Mothers Reflect on How Children with Down Syndrome Enrich Their Lives.
